We designed the Student Services page to help you find information on Wickenburg Unified School District’s focus on creating A+ schools and the programs that assist us in moving students to the next academic level.

Raising Expectations is a document created by the teachers of Wickenburg USD to formalize a process, which celebrates students who perform well academically and to assist students who struggle academically. See the important documents sidebar (at the right) for more information.

We identify students for ELL services through a home language survey and a state developed language assessment (AZELLA). Once identified, students are either placed in a Structured English Immersion (SEI) classroom, or an Individualized Language Learner Plan (ILLP) is created to guide the classroom teacher in meeting the student’s language development needs. Placement in services depends on the number of students qualifying. The services provided focus on providing instruction in the development of listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills as well as vocabulary and grammar in the English language. To ensure that all students in the program learn English quickly and to comply with state guidelines, we provide instructions in English.

Is your current address a temporary living arrangement? Is your temporary address due to loss of housing or economic hardship? Are you homeless? Are you an accompanied youth? Do you know someone who may be in need of help? There may be help for you and your family with enrollment in school, educational placement for at-risk students, coordinating community social services, and basic school supplies.

Our goal is to ensure that McKinney-Vento* eligible students have educational opportunities equal to those of their non-homeless peers. *Subtitle B of Title VII of the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act (42 U.S.C. 11431 et seq.) is included in No Child Left Behind as Title X-C.

In accordance with ARS 15-779, Wickenburg Unified School District believes "gifted education" should include appropriate academic course offerings and services that are required to provide an educational program that is an integral part of the regular school day and that is commensurate with the academic abilities and potential of a gifted pupil.

A gifted pupil is defined as “a child who is of lawful school age, who due to superior intellect or advanced learning ability, or both, is not afforded an opportunity for otherwise attainable progress and development in regular classroom instruction and who needs appropriate gifted education services, to achieve at levels commensurate with the child's intellect and ability.”

In accordance with the Arizona State Mandate for Gifted Education, gifted education services are offered to all students who score at the 97^th percentile on a verbal, quantitative, and/or non-verbal battery of tests listed as approved tests by the State of Arizona.

Hassayampa Elementary  and Vulture Peak Middle School provide services through Title I funding. Depending on the needs of the students, math or reading assistance is available in push-in, pull-out, after school, or summer school programs.
