Welcome to Virtual Academy

  • Welcome to Wickenburg Virtual Academy, an exclusively online school in the Wickenburg Unified School District. We provide a sustainable education for grades 4-12 and seek to serve our students throughout the state of Arizona.

The Mission of the Wickenburg Virtual Academy (WVA) is to provide an online education that addresses students’ learning styles, promotes academic success, cultivates lifelong learners, and promotes 21st Century skills enabling students to be career and college ready.  Through consistent effort, hard work, determination and communication, every student can meet the challenge of mastering high expectations.

Here are some basic highlights of our online school:

    • Students are taught by highly qualified instructors in each core class using our online curriculum and other instructional materials embedded in our website.
    • Grades 4 and 5 students, along with an At-Home Learning Coach (parent/guardian) work through weekly lessons and projects in the core content areas (language arts, math, science, and social studies). Students can meet with their teacher virtually through office hours as needed.
    • Grades 6, 7, & 8 work more independently and reach out to their virtual teachers as needed in their classes. However, there still needs to be a "learning coach" at home to help direct the students in daily learning activities. Students will still need help with learning time management, self-guided direction and goal setting while they focus on the core content areas.
    • Grades 9-12 access and work on classes on their own but have tutoring available with their core instructors, who are WUSD employees. If the student is struggling, an appointment can be made for personal instruction, via a virtual meeting, or students who live close enough to our lab are also welcome to come and work in-person with their teacher to receive one-on-one instruction.
    • Students can also take online CTE and other electives through our educational partner, Imagine Learning.
    • Students in grades 6-12 can take part in after-school clubs and sports the district offers if they are in good academic standing in their WVA classes and live close enough to one of our district's schools to be feasible.
