Final Exams Grades 9-12
Because asynchronous classes are completed entirely away from school, final exams are an important measure used to determine student mastery of standards, concepts and required learning in their course. In order to receive credit for the course, students must pass the final exam with a score of 60% or higher, regardless of their current cumulative grade in the course. Students who fail the final exam will receive a failing grade for the course.
In order to take the final exam, students must complete all assignments in the course with a score of 60% or higher. Be sure to go back and make sure you have re-tried all assignments with a score lower than 60%.
Final exams should be completed no later than the scheduled end date of the course (9 weeks or 18 weeks). All final exams must be completed in-person at the WVA lab, under the supervision of a test proctor. To sign up for a time and location, students must contact the office staff to schedule an appointment to take a final.
Taking the Exam
Final exam testers must follow these rules:
- Students should have their notes and be prepared to use them during the final.
-
Students must turn in their cell phones.
-
Students may not utilize any other websites during their exam, except for Desmos for math exams.
-
Copying anything from other sites is prohibited and will result in test invalidation.
-
Students may not work with anyone else on any part of the exam.
-
Students must pass the final exam in order to receive credit for the course. If they do not pass the first time, they should study and take their ONE retake another day. A student who does not pass the exam after these two tries will receive a failing grade in the course. (district policy)
What if the student is unable to take the exam in-person?
A requirement of enrollment with Wickenburg Virtual Academy is that students take all final exams in-person. This expectation is laid out in the Online Learning Agreement, which is signed prior to receiving any classes. We understand that emergencies may arise. If a student is unable to come to a testing site to take the exam due to one of the reasons listed below, their parent/guardian may request the exam be proctored virtually, via Classwize and Google Meet, with a staff member at a secured location. There are a few reasons why WVA will permit a virtual exam. We encourage students who are sick or have other temporary situations to call our office to arrange an in-person time that will work for them.
-
There is a life emergency or issue that prevents the student from being able to come to the WVA lab.
-
The student has a chronic medical condition that makes on-campus testing not possible or unsafe.
-
The parent can supply documentation of the issue, if requested.

Wickenburg Virtual Academy utilizes a high-quality, rigorous online curriculum in order to make sure our students are given the best educational opportunity they can have while also being given flexibility in the way they access their education. We partner with Imagine Learning and utilize all of their curriculum options to provide access to top online courses and teachers for our students. All courses offered have highly qualified teachers that present lessons through videos and incorporate various hands-on engaging activities, which students have access to, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Imagine Learning follows the Wickenburg Unfiied School District calendar and does NOT assign new work in the courses on weekends and schoolbreaks/holidays; however, because courses are asynchronous, students can work on classes during those days. This provides the student with an opportunity to get caught up on work if they have fallen behind or work ahead in order to finish a class early.
Students in grades 4-8 take the four core content-area courses:
- Language Arts
- math
- science
- social studies
Students in these grades must take grade-level classes and submit grade-level work. Because we use Imaging Learning courses, modifications/changes cannot be made to the curriculum, course content, or the 18-week pacing of the course. These are NOT open-enrollment courses, so students MUST start classes within the enrollment window at the beginning of each semester.
Students in grades 9-12 must pass the courses required to meet the Arizona Department of Education graduation requirements. This includes:
- 4 years of English
- 4 years of math (Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra II, and a fourth year of math that meets the board of regency requirements)
- 3 lab sciences
- World History
- United States History
- Government
- Economics
- 1 credit of Fine Arts or CTE
- 7 credits of electives (limited to what is offered by our curriculum provider
(students also have the opportunity to take some honors courses through Imagine Learning. Students can also enroll in dual enrollment courses through a community college or university for a fee).
For grades 4-5, students complete the daily lessons online as well as construct projects, complete labs, submit handwritten assignments, create things with materials found around the house, record themselves and submit the recordings, and take regular assessments in the form of quizzes/tests.
For grades 6-12, students complete daily lessons and assignments online. ALL core courses require students to take notes and submit them before each unit test. This provides evidence that the student has worked through lessons before being assessed on the materials. Some courses will have outside assignments, such as science labs, essays, research projects, novel readings, and slideshow presentations. Course assessments are most often in the form of a quiz and are taken after each lesson. A test finalizes the unit, with cumulative exams/final tests rounding out the assessments. For high school courses, the final exams must be proctored and passed with a 60% or higher for the student to receive credit for the course (school policy).
