Welcome from Principal, Mark Gorman
Wickenburg High School and Wickenburg Virtual Academy Families and Community,
I hope you are enjoying a wonderful summer and are finding time to relax and recharge! That said, summer always seems to fly by so quickly and with that the first day of school for students is just around the corner. For Wickenburg students, the first day of school for the 2022-23 school year is Monday, August 1st. As principal of Wickenburg High School, it is my pleasure to welcome everyone back for what we anticipate will be a great year. It is our mission to prepare students for whatever they dream for themselves beyond high school...prepare them for life and work at 30!
Before school begins in August, we are providing students new to WHS with the opportunity to come on campus and participate in our Jump Start Program. Jump Start will take place at WHS on July 20th and 21st, from 8:00-3:00. Any incoming freshman or student new to WHS can participate in this. Students that are attending must secure their own transportation to and from Jump Start. Lunch will be provided! Please use the link in this Edition of Wrangler News to register or contact the school for registration information and assistance if necessary.
Student schedules will be available on-line using either StudentVue or ParentVue the week of July 25th. Please know that changes are continuously being made and, even once visible, there is a chance they will be modified. All students will need to pick up their schedule on the morning of August 1st in front of the Del Webb Center. This will ensure that they have the most up-to-date schedule for the day. This will be on special colored paper so both teachers and students know they are in the correct classrooms to start the year. Schedule changes for the first day of school will consist of just those that require an immediate change. Some examples of schedule issues that will require immediate assistance include:
- No schedule
- Two classes listed for a period
- No class listed for a period
Wickenburg High School will be holding our “Open House” event on August 9th at 5:30 PM. We are currently planning for this and will have information regarding this event coming out very soon! Please look for it in our Wrangler News as the school year approaches.
This year “Picture day” is scheduled for August 17th. Be sure to mark your calendar for this and our other events as the school year quickly approaches.
I want to take a moment to discuss cell phones at WHS. While we concede that smartphones offer learning opportunities, our recent purchases of Chromebooks have provided us with access to technology within all classrooms. Cell phone use during class is largely a distraction from academics and often leads to a drop in student attention and performance. Students should not have their cellphones out during class time unless the teacher has approved them for use during the class. Students may be asked to put them away and/or in a storage area during class to minimize this distraction. Students who fail to comply with this policy will face consequences consistent with our code of conduct. Students will still be able to utilize their phones outside of classroom time. We ask that you speak with your child/student prior to the first day of school to support our efforts to improve student success.
Finally, if you need information regarding athletics, please take a look at the WHS Athletic website and/or contact the athletic office at 928-684-6609.
We look forward to an amazing school year!
